Your Opportunity:

This Assertive Outreach Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care within the Recovery Alberta Clinic located in the Wetaskiwin area including Maskwacis; as well as the Drayton Valley Clinic as needed. The incumbent performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to clinical policies and procedures and nursing care standards within Alberta Health Services. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide crisis intervention, assessment, diagnostic and treatment services (supportive therapy and life skills development) to adults with chronic and persistent psychiatric disorders. You will undertake individual support work and may do group activities. Your responsibilities will also include collaborative working relationships with and providing consultation to mental health therapists, addictions counsellors, community treatment order staff, consumer support workers\mental health aides, community agencies, physicians and other health professionals in the continuum of mental health care. There is opportunity with this position to also support crisis assessment at the Wetaskiwin Hospital. This Assertive Outreach Nurse will be working in a mental health environment and will practice within their full scope of practice as defined by the appropriate college and accepts responsibility for continuing competency through ongoing professional development, including participating in educational programs, research and continuous quality activities. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of five years’ related experience in Community Assertive Outreach Mental Health services. Working knowledge of psychiatric pharmacology and the DSM-V. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
