Unit 3-5 at Alberta Hospital Edmonton is a 19 bed Assessment and Treatment Forensic Adult Unit that provides mental health assessment, treatment and support to vulnerable individuals with significant mental health and addiction conditions, also involved with the justice system. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse in this program is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with legislation, clinical policies, and nursing care standards. Description:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, while reflecting shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Psychiatric Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of recent experience in acute mental health inpatient or related setting. Solid interpersonal communication skills, organization skills and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated knowledge of mental health decompensation. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medication. Nursing practicum at forensics will be considered in the absence of 2-year experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum 1-year of recent experience in a forensic mental health setting. Basic knowledge of the Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) legislation (Criminal Code Review Board). Current nonviolent crisis intervention (NVCI), connect care training, and N95 fit testing.
