Your Opportunity:

The Police and Crisis Team (PACT) is a partnership between Recovery Alberta and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) is a member of a multidisciplinary team and partnered with a law enforcement officer. Each nurse and law enforcement partner will operate out of a local RCMP detachment. Each PACT unit will fall under the direct leadership of their Red Deer Manager but will also collaborate with the provincial RPACT leadership team, including the RPACT Professional Practice Lead. The RN/RPN, in partnership with RCMP, is responsible for providing specialized mental health assessment and consultation services in an outreach context. Nurses work in tandem with RCMP officers to respond to situations related to mental health crises where the individual is committing person, property, and social disorder offenses, and requires police and crisis team support. The team will attend community crises that involve individuals presenting with public safety concerns, including those who may pose a danger to themselves and/or the public, those experiencing mental health and addiction issues and who may have a higher risk of being homeless due to the nature of their presenting issues. The nurse is responsible for providing risk and mental health assessments including mental status exams, recommendations for next steps, conducting therapeutic interventions, arranging urgent psychiatry assessments, medication administration when appropriate, and making referrals to other Recovery Alberta and community service providers as needed. This position is a 4 on 4 off rotation. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Psychiatric Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(a)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A high degree of professionalism is required to perform mental health interventions in an outreach context and to ensure the AHS/RCMP Memorandum of Agreement is upheld. The nurse will respect the Memorandum of Agreement between AHS/RCMP and ensures that the nurse’s behavior does not violate the agreement or place the nurse’s Enhanced Security Clearance at risk (i.e., significantly blurring boundaries between clinical and healthcare roles, undeclared conflicts of interest, criminal behavior, breaching confidentiality of RCMP information). The nurse must have 2 + years' experience in providing services to the hard to serve population who suffer from severe mental illness and psychosocial problems in the community, including homelessness; social isolation; marginalization; and often encounter significant barriers to accessing mental health and medical services. Good interpersonal skills, flexibility, and an ability to work independently are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

A good working knowledge of community agencies and programs is an asset.
