Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 3 years nursing experience working with individual living with acute addiction and/or mental health concerns OR minimum 3 years nursing experience within an Emergency Department with a demonstrated desire to enhance knowledge and skillset related to caring for those living with addiction and mental health concerns. Demonstrated capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team. Leadership qualities; ability to make decisions in a critical matter. Approachable, Assertive and ready to learn new skills. Client and family centered care as a core philosophy. Knowledge of the specific symptoms of major mental illnesses, substance use and/or concurrent disorders. Ability to problem solve, adjust to new or unexpected events, and to deal effectively with conflict situations. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Understanding and practicing trauma informed care. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to organize work and establish workload priorities. Excellent critical thinking skills, ability to make decisions in the moment. Prepared for high volumes, fast pace, high acuity, and multi-tasking. Willingness to work with individuals through the developmental life span as this program will support all ages presenting to the department.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health community resources is an asset. An understanding of the impact of trauma on substance misuse and mental health concerns. Excellent crisis intervention skills and ability to triage priorities.
