Registered Nurse / Triage Nurse - Patient Referrals
Your Opportunity:
The Central Access and Triage (CAT) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing leadership & oversight to the referrals office central referrals office. The RN reviews incoming patient referrals, assess urgency and appropriateness, assists with triaging patients to specific physicians based on patient need. The RN acts as a liaison between the central access office, department of Orthopedic Surgery and Primary Care Physicians and referral agents to facilitate the referral process. The Triage Nurse assist with triaging & processing incoming/outgoing referrals for 16 Surgeons in 4 clinics (Hand, Cast, Hip & Knee, General Orthopedic), monitors both appointment work queues and surgeons wait-times to ensure wait times to referrals are assigned to appropriately. The RN will conduct monthly audit reviews and provide monthly waitlist statistics to both Physician leads of Hand and Unit manager. This self-directed position functions as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with the Surgeons, RN case managers and medical office assistants (MOA’s) in delivery of care. In consultation with the nurse clinician and nurse educator the triage RN will review clinics policies and procedures, updating and archiving as appropriate. The RN will also monitor clinic in basket pool for messages, online RightFax for incoming documents/referral not received by the clinic to ensure items are actioned in the fax folder. The Triage RN is required to be onsite fulltime and fulfill the Nurse Clinician role whenever the clinician is absent.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Current Registration in good standing with CRNA. Minimum 5 years of recent acute care experience. Minimum 3 years of recent acute care orthopedic nursing experience. Minimum 1 year experience using EPIC in Ambulatory clinical setting. Minimum 1 year experience with Ambulatory Referrals Management, including strong understanding of Referral Entry & Waitlist. Minimum 1 year experience with Managing Referral Work queues 1 to 5 in Connect Care (1- Action Needed, 2-Awaiting Triage, 3-Ready for Scheduling, 4-Pending notification, 5 -Outgoing Referrals). Demonstrated strong interpersonal and decision-making skills. Demonstrated critical thinking & assessment skills and ability to problem solve. Excellent time management, organizational skills and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:Bachelors of Nursing Degree. Knowledge of Orthopedic diseases, disorders, procedures and treatment protocols. Previous case manager / nurse clinician experience. Telephone assessment and triage experience. Experience with generating and presenting data. Current experience with hip and knee care path preferred. Understanding of the Alberta Referral Directory. Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint).
