Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Eligibility is restricted to Graduate Nurses, Graduate Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who have graduated within 12 months prior to the anticipated start date of the program and who have not yet obtained a regular position with AHS, Covenant Health, or Recovery Alberta. Additional Required Qualifications:Successful candidates complete the Orientation for Adult Critical Care Nurses (OPACCA), which includes theory and clinical practice. Post-OPACCA, a 12-month staged skill development (approx. 1600 hours) is required. Strong knowledge, assessment, communication, organizational, and patient care skills are essential to pass the Clinical Assessment and continue employment in the Critical Care Program. Candidates must commit to full-time employment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a minimum of one year to maintain eligibility within the department. Applicants are expected to demonstrate the ability to assess personal learning needs, actively seek guidance to address knowledge gaps, and show a strong commitment to continuous professional development. A proven dedication to delivering high-quality, patient- and family-centered care within a collaborative team environment is essential. Charge Nurse responsibilities may be assigned following successful completion of orientation. Graduate nurses must have completed their final practicum in an acute care setting. A Bachelor of Nursing degree or Nursing Diploma is required.
Preferred Qualifications:Hands-on experience in ICU, observation units, or working with ventilators in acute care. NCLEX completion is a strong asset.
