Description:
The Transition Graduate Nurse (TGN) is a regulated health professional who provides comprehensive nursing care to individuals and families across the lifespan. These positions are supernumerary in nature, that are not part of the baseline staff count. The TGN will be assigned a Clinical Guide with whom they will be scheduled to work and collaboratively provide care until it is determined that they are ready to independently assume the full scope of RN or RPN practice. Once the TGN is determined to be ready for independent practice and obtains a regular position of no less than 0.5 FTE, they will continue to work the same total FTE as their original GNTPP position for the remainder of the program. During this Independent Practice Phase, only the FTE of their new position will be counted in the baseline staff complement. The remaining portion, equal to the difference between their GNTPP FTE and their new position FTE, will be excluded from the baseline and will not require backfilling. The TGN will conduct holistic assessments, develop and implement care plans, coordinate interdisciplinary care, and contribute to health system improvement. TGNs work in diverse settings including acute care, continuing care, community health and specialty programs, and are accountable for safe, evidence-informed and ethical practice by adhering to legislative requirements, CRNA Standards, the Health Professions Act, and the CNA Code of Ethics (Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses, 2025). GNTPP participants who do not achieve a regular position within twelve 12 months of their initial appointment, will be transferred to casual status.
