Your Opportunity:

This large tertiary trauma center requires a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide nursing support as a member of a multidisciplinary team on the Stroke Ambulance for a pilot project (ACHIEVE). The team will work largely outside of the ED setting; assessing, treating and potentially transporting patients experiencing or potentially experiencing acute stroke. When not on the ambulance the Registered Nurse - Stroke Ambulance will assist in supporting the care of patient’s within the ED setting in a supportive role at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized emergency/critical care education program equivalent to those required to currently work in an Emergency Department in Alberta Health Services. Completion of Stroke Ambulance training/orientation course. Minimum 2 years of recent and relevant experience working in a Tertiary Emergency Department. Minimum one year of experience and comfort in the administration of fibrinolytic therapies and the clinical management of patients who receive them. Ability to be flexible in hours. Copes well in high stress environments and possess critical thinking, assessment, communication and interpersonal skills essential. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Must be able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Emergency Nurse (C.N.A. or C.N.E.) an asset. Preference will be given to those with one or more of the following certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
