You would be covering predictable relief needs such as sick time, leave of absences, education, vacation, and personal leave. At RGH, you would be covering for Units 45, 48, 49, rTMS and ECT. You get the opportunity to learn about complex mental health disorders that are present in all areas of health care facilities. It’s rewarding being part of supporting various individuals stabilize psychiatrically and assist them with the skills required to reintegrate back in the community. As an RN you work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team in the in-patient acute psychiatric nursing unit collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities. You provide excellence in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care developing strong skills in mental status assessment, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. The opportunity to be a strong advocate for the patient is an integral role as you will facilitate the appeal process for patient certification as well as speaking to the patient’s level of functioning in front of an AMH review panel board. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:RPNs with Active or Eligible Registration with CRPNA College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta welcome to apply. 4 months of Addiction and Mental Health experience within the last 3 years. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health site may be considered. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required. Working knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in AMH assessment tools including but not limited to the Mental Status Examination. Experience in various risk assessments: i.e., Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, Violence risk. Training and experience in therapeutic modalities such as Trauma Informed Care, CBT, DBT and/or other evidence-based modalities. As a nurse in this regularized relief float position, you will be working and covering in multiple units. You would be covering predictable relief needs such as sick time, leave of absences, education, vacation, and personal leave. At RGH, you would be covering for Units 45, 48, 49, rTMS and ECT. Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Additionally must have familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk.
Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Nursing experience in an acute care setting is preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques preferred.
