Your Opportunity:

The Registered Psychiatric Nurse/Registered Nurse (RPN/RN) will be working with the adult population within the Addiction & Mental Health program at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the Addiction Recovery Center. This is a designated float position, supporting Emergency Mental Health Team, Unit 61/62, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, Complex Medical Detox, Addiction Recovery Center and ECT. The successful applicant will have a wide scope of practice and be able to adapt to the different unit routines. The RN/RPN is responsible for the comprehensive assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The successful incumbent performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe, effective, stage-matched nursing care according to clinical policies, procedures, and evidenced-based nursing care standards. The incumbent works within a concurrent capable, recovery-oriented framework, within the context of a multidisciplinary team. Other duties include assuming Charge Nurse Responsibilities as well as supervising Licensed Practical Nurses and Mental Health Aides on shift. Successful applicants will be provided with an enriched and expanded orientation, non-violent crisis intervention training and ongoing coaching. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic computer and email skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in an adult acute practice setting. Experience working within the CoACT framework. Experience working with persons with significant mental illness and/or addictions. Strong interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills. Ability to work independently while maintain collaboration with team members. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads.
