Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Unit Manager of Short Stay Unit 130, as a Regularized Relief Nurse, you will work on all the mental health units at the Peter Lougheed Center. You will use Trauma Informed Care, the recovery model, and an understanding of the DSM V-TR to support patients in understanding and managing their mental health. In PES you will also provide bedside care and conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments of patients in the Emergency Department (ED). You will collaborate with services and organize referrals to community services or admission to inpatient units based on client need and in consultation with the ED. The Registered Nurse / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families, and/or communities. The RN/RPN is responsible to provide quality health care, while working at full scope of practice as noted by CRNA or CRPNA, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. This will ensure that comprehensive, coordinated, and continuous care is provided to patients and families. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year of acute inpatient psychiatric experience within the last 3 years with an FTE. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship on an inpatient mental health unit will be considered. Experience working in community crisis support will also be considered. Minimum typing speed of 60 WPM and computer proficiency. Successful candidates are required to complete an extensive orientation. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Mental Health Act and Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone. Demonstrated organizational and clinical skills in addition to being self-directed and able to work collaboratively in a team environment required. Working Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in administering the Mental Status examination. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. Knowledge of the addiction and mental health continuum of care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Nursing experience in a high intensity acute care setting. Demonstrated ability in facilitating groups and family interviews will be considered an asset.
