Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent experience working in a children’s mental health care setting for at least two years is required. Must have proven communication, behavioural management, clinical observation and assessment skills. Must know about the treatment and medications used to treat children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric illness. Physically able to lift 11 kg, climb 3 flights of stairs, participate in gym activities and escort children into environment restraints or use physical restraints when required. This position works with children and youth who are experiencing significant mental health and/or behaviour issues and may demonstrate dysregulation, loud voices, anger and/or anxiety.

Preferred Qualifications:

A baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice will be considered. Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team would be an asset. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or Effective De-Escalation Techniques training is preferred.
