Cold Lake is located on Alberta’s seventh largest lake and is home to Canada’s 4-Wing Airforce Base, one of Canada’s busiest fighter bases. Cold Lake boasts a bustling oil and gas industry as well as an active tourism industry. Generalist Public Health Nurse based in or out of the Cold Lake Public Health office, is Alberta Health Services frontline representative in delivering public health services in the diverse communities of the North Zone. The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders. The incumbent will: effectively use the nursing process to deliver quality care; provide safe, ethical and patient/family centered health care; independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals, and evaluation as appropriate. Also provides services to individuals, families, groups, and communities with attention to diversity and the social determinants of health. Duties include but are not limited to the generalist role of public health nursing. Provision of universal Public Health services includes immunization for all age groups, influenza program delivery, and health promotion initiatives. Communicable Disease Control – outbreak management, notifiable disease follow-up. Maternal/Infant Health including postpartum support, lactation education, prenatal education, and high-risk assessment of mother, babies, and families in the home environment. Sexual and Reproductive Health – will be required to provide STI test and treat, contraception support, pregnancy testing and education in schools and communities. Health promotion and injury prevention.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Must possess strong critical thinking, assessment, communication (oral and written), organizational, problem solving and counseling skills. Must be able to work as part of an interdisciplinary team and independently with minimal supervision. Able to perform physical duties including moving clinical supplies to community clinics and home visits (this may involve moving up to 50 lbs at times), service delivery (may require awkward and repetitive movements), sitting, standing and/or bending for long periods of time. Comfortable to drive in all-weather conditions, urban and rural. This position is part of Primary Care Alberta. Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Recent nursing experience including prenatal, labour & delivery, postpartum or working with young families or the pediatric population preferred. Maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses and childbirth education.
