Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Recent completion of a recognized Critical Care course with 1 year of adult critical care RN experience is required. Candidates without previous Adult ICU experience or certification may apply and may be considered for the Orientation Program (OPACCA) which is a program consisting of theory and clinical orientation. Strong knowledge, assessment, communication, organizational, and patient care skills are essential to pass the Clinical Assessment and continue employment in the Critical Care Program. Post-OPACCA, a 12-month staged skill development is required and candidates are expected to commit to full-time employment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a minimum of one year. One year full-time employment post-OPACCA is required to maintain eligibility within the department. Candidates must show the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance to fill knowledge gaps and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. A commitment to providing quality patient and family centered care in a team environment must be demonstrated. Experience in ICU, observation room, trauma, with ventilators and as an acute care RN is preferred. Charge Nurse duties may be required following successful orientation to the role. Recent experience within an acute care environment, either as a nursing student or an RN, is required.
Preferred Qualifications:A Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing. Training and experience with: Epidurals, ACLS, TNCC, CNA Critical Care Certification, hemodialysis and/or CRRT, rhythm analysis, Pacemakers, Cardiac Arrest Management, and hemodynamic monitoring. Experience working with diverse communities or groups (i.e. ethno-cultural, racialized, faith-based, 2S LGBTQI+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, etc.).
