Registered Nurse - Home Peritoneal Dialysis
Your Opportunity:
As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the primary focus of the Alberta Kidney Care North (AKC-N) Home Dialysis Registered Nurse is developing, implementing, revising and maintaining a program designed to focus on teaching patients with chronic renal failure to perform dialysis replacement therapy at home including home peritoneal dialysis (HD). This nurse will be responsible for the assessment of new patients, planning, educating and providing follow-up care of the home dialysis patients in Grande Prairie and Northern Alberta. This nurse will meet best practice standards, including algorithms for models of care; monitoring of home dialysis patients; and increasing the number of patients choosing home dialysis. The nurse will be responsible for patient education with a focus on patients who have had no dialysis education before starting dialysis; ensuring adherence to Qt indicators; and identifying the barriers specific to patients choosing home dialysis. The essential components of this position are education, clinical, and research and will be closely aligned with the vision of the program and the educational needs of staff and patients/families. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at a basic rate of pay.

Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of 1-year recent Alberta Kidney Care-North home peritoneal dialysis experience is required. On-call with callback (work alone) is required. Responsible to maintain active registration with CRNA throughout the duration of employment. Demonstrates excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills. Ability to make sound clinical assessments (in-person/telephone triage). Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential. Please note, candidate must have previously successfully completed in-person 6-week (full-time, Monday-Friday 0730-1545) orientation in Edmonton at West Edmonton Kidney Care. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts which are assigned by the hiring manager.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates with previous Alberta Kidney Care Home Peritoneal Dialysis experience. Preference will be given to candidates with Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN), Nephrology Certification (CNeph), recent Connect Care experience, recent Charge Nurse and/or Team Lead experience. Preference will be given to candidates with recent pediatric/adult/geriatric learning education experience(s).
