Located just north of downtown Edmonton’s beautiful Ice District, you’ll find the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH): an 882-bed facility, which happens to be Western Canada's biggest and busiest hospital! This position also involves actively participating in the development and coordination of discharge planning and providing leadership to LPNs and HCAs on the nursing team. In addition, the following are core RN competencies that the successful candidate will have the ability to display: maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team; work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members; adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and conditions and maintain accountability for practice; continued critical thinking, time management, communication skills; and the ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise with initiative and self-direction. The RN will float to support teams throughout the entire Medicine Program.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

BCLS issued from Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) only. Ability to float throughout the entire Medicine Program. The physical demands of this role will require the successful candidate to walk, stand, kneel, bend, reach and sustain posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling of objects greater than 40 lbs, including frequent patient transfers. You will also be required to complete "It's Your Move" training, a safe client handling program through AHS' Workplace Health & Safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

This team rotation includes 2 RNs, one in charge, so Resource Nurse Training is an asset. Strong clinical knowledge, complex reasoning, and communication skills, including conflict resolution to improve inter-professional patient/community-centered care is ideal. Experience working in a medicine unit, or on multiple units is preferred. CoACT experience is ideal. Charge Nurse experience is preferred. Please Note: This posting has 2 openings
