Registered Nurse - Critical Care
Your Opportunity:
The Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) is unique in offering a combined 12 bed Intensive Care Unit and 7 bed Coronary Care Unit. With a primary focus on critically ill medical & surgical patients who require a high degree of specialized nursing & medical care, common patient diagnoses include respiratory failure, pneumonia, complications related to asthma, cardiac arrest, sepsis, renal & liver failure, complications of diabetes (DKA), complications of pregnancy, shock, chest pain, MI, CHF & dysrhythmias. The RN - Critical Care acts as a leader & is a pivotal member of the interprofessional team. The critical care RN will act as the primary caregiver to the patient & family in the critical care setting, & is trained in advanced critical care certifications including Code Blue & Outreach (Rapid Response, MET) Team membership. Critical Care nurses work collaboratively with Physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists & Social Workers in order to achieve the best patient outcomes through a team-based approach. All adult ICUs in Calgary participate in a provincial critical care orientation program (OPACCA), offering an orientation program tailored to meet your specific learning requirements. As the RN you will maintain professional practice including but not limited to mentoring of unit staff, ongoing professional development, participation in quality improvement initiatives, assumption of charge nurse duties when needed, promotion of a positive supportive work environment, & demonstration of professional accountability. In addition, you will demonstrate excellence in patient & family centered care, patient advocacy & teaching; a collaborative team-based approach; conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem-solving & decision-making skills; & a commitment to fostering an environment of respect, promoting the values of AHS.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:1 year experience as a RN in an acute medical and/or surgical unit within the last 3 years. Consideration may be given to RNs who have completed a Transitional Grad Nurse program or a final preceptorship in a critical care setting (ICU, CCU, CVICU) within the last 12 months.
Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree - Nursing. 1 year experience in a medical teaching unit within the last 3 years. Experience working in ICU within the last 2 years highly preferred. Current certification in ICU advanced competencies – CVC, IV Push, ECG & 12 Lead Interpretation, Arterial Lines. ACLS. Certificate in Adult Critical Care Nursing (ACCN). Experience as a preceptor and/or orientating new staff.
