Registered Nurse - Critical Care
Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse - Critical Care Nurse (ICU RN) is a leader and pivotal member of the inter-professional team. The ICU RN acts as a primary caregiver to the patient and family in the critical care setting, and is trained in advanced critical care certifications, including Code Blue and Outreach (Rapid Response, MET) Team membership. Critical Care Nurses work collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists and social workers in order to achieve the best patient outcomes through a team-based approach. All adult ICUs in Calgary participate in a 5 week full time provincial critical care orientation program (OPACCA), offering an orientation tailored to meet your specific learning requirements. One of the largest and busiest critical care units in Alberta, Foothills Medical Center ICU is the regional tertiary referral center supporting multiple clinical programs including trauma, burns, and neurocritical care for Southern Alberta. This 33+ bed unit is located in a state of the art facility, and offers a broad case mix including medical and surgical emergencies, oncology and haematology. Key Responsibilities Include: Provision of direct care for patients & families. Maintenance of electronic and written documentation of care. Maintain professional practice, including but not limited to mentoring of unit staff, ongoing professional development, assumption of Charge Nurse duties when needed, promotion of a positive supportive work environment, and demonstration of professional accountability. Promotion of a healthy, respectful and safe practice environment.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:This position includes the following physical requirements: Being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking and standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained. Be able to assist in transporting, lifting, and positioning of patients. Be able to lift, push, and pull equipment. Additional Education: Certificate in Adult Critical Care Nursing is an asset. ACLS Certification is preferred. Degree in Nursing is preferred. Experience: Strong physical assessment skills. Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to work effectively in stressful and emergent situations. Experience with patient and family centered care and collaborative practice is a strong asset. - A positive and enthusiastic attitude is required, as is a willingness to actively tackle new challenges and be able to effectively communicate in a professional, caring and compassionate manner. Preference will be given to current FMC ICU RNs with a minimum of one year critical care experience. 1-2 years acute care nursing experience within the last 3 years may be considered with demonstrated: - Maintenance of clinical competence and proficiency. - Accountability for own professional practice.
