Registered Nurse - Bed Coordinator
Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse - Bed Coordinator maintains the Hospital's bed tracking systems, assuring that the bed assignment and status of patients is accurate at defined intervals throughout the day. The Bed Coordinator follows a prioritized way of allocating beds to patients awaiting admission to the Hospital, including internal/external transfers, direct admissions, Emergency Department, and Surgery patients for defined areas of site responsibility while considering patient care requirements. This position entails working collaboratively with the Site Manager for day-to-day flow. The Bed Coordinator makes decisions independently but must be able to identify exceptions to standard processes and guidelines for discussion with Managers. As a Bed Coordinator at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Registered Nurse demonstrates excellence with interpersonal communication skills as well as with organization. He/she is reliable, motivated, self-directed and able to work in a stressful dynamic environment. The successful candidate has the ability to handle multiple priorities and readjust their daily schedule on short notice. The Bed Coordinator is expected to be physically present and available to all units in the hospital and assess patients for suitability for certain beds and over capacity spaces. Applicants should be aware that there are physical demands related to extensive walking throughout the hospital and sitting for long periods. All work tasks are computer based so there are extensive repetitive motion tasks.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of five years of tertiary hospital-based nursing experience required (3 of these within the past 5 years). Experience in Bed Placement, Bed Coordination, Bed Management or working in an integrated operations centre/command centre required. Experience at the University of Alberta Hospital – including familiarity with programs, units and appropriate patient placements within each subspecialty. Experience using computer applications: Connect Care, Microsoft Office (specifically Word & Excel) & Netcare required. Experience in leadership roles, such as a Charge Nurse or Team Lead. Must be able to work independently and within a team environment. Demonstrated ability to function effectively while managing high levels of stress. Must be able to work in a noisy environment with repeated interruptions. Must be able to tolerate long periods of sitting and be able to walk long distances and quickly navigate throughout the entire hospital. Must be able to work at computers for long periods of time Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to consistently demonstrate critical thinking. Recent Emergency Department, critical care or observation unit experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional image and proven ability to remain calm, courteous, and respectful at all times. Skilled at paying close attention to detail. Bachelors degree in Nursing.
