Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Managers of Gastroenterology, the registered nurse (RN) - GI Central Access Triage (GI CAT) plays a critical role in supporting a high-volume, fast-paced centralized intake and triage program. This position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the timely and appropriate triage of incoming Gastroenterology referrals in accordance with established GI triage protocols and clinical guidelines. The RN reviews referral information to assess urgency and appropriateness, obtains additional clinical information as required, and collaborates closely with the GI Triage Medical Lead to support effective patient prioritization and access to care. Working in a dynamic environment with significant referral volumes, the successful candidate will exercise strong clinical judgement, critical thinking, and decision-making skills while managing competing priorities and tight timelines. Exceptional communication, organization, prioritization, telephone, negotiation and relationship building skills are essential. The RN also provides guidance and support to clerical team members regarding triage processes, referral management and priority coordination to ensure efficient workflow and service delivery. Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 0800-1615. These hours may be adjusted to meet operational requirements.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3-5 years of recent gastroenterology nursing experience in a GI service, GI clinic or endoscopy unit required. Advanced knowledge of GI diseases, disorders, procedures, and treatment protocols required. At least 2 year experience in a role where there was proven utilization of GI triage protocols and clinical guidelines to prioritize patient referrals required. Job experience with telephone triage required. Proven ability to independently manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy, quality, and attention to detail. Demonstrated proficiency using computer-based systems and applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic health record systems, with minimum keyboarding speed of 50 wpm. Experience collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to support patient flow and patient access. Demonstrated ability to interpret and synthesize complex clinical information. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, frequent interruptions, and changing workloads in a fast-paced environment. Strong conflict resolution, communication, teamwork, and relationship-building skills required. Proven job experience with deescalating conflicts and patients required. Ability to perform the essential duties of the position in a primarily computer-based work environment. Ability to sit and perform computer work for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing, current ambulatory/outpatient clinic experience preferred. Previous experience managing Connect Care Triage work queues preferred. Previous experience with quality improvement and standardization of processes preferred.
