Your Opportunity:

The Rheumatology Nurse is responsible for providing medical treatment for the Pediatric patients who are suffering with rheumatic conditions and diseases. In consultation with the Physician, the Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates the various rheumatology clinics by assessing, triaging, and assisting with new or urgent consultations. A Rheumatology Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care by screening for complications, developing and maintaining care plans, assisting with clinical procedures, completing, and applying for drug funding, monitoring medication, providing education (individual and group) and empowering patient and families to manage chronic conditions in a pain free and healthy way. The RN is expected to provide ongoing support for patients and families through telephone triage, interpretation of lab results, medication funding and administration, and timely communication with care providers, physicians, research coordinators, families, and the patient. The Rheumatology program consists of a strong team that focuses on quality improvement and providing the best care possible for their patients. The RN plays a critical role in improving care and treatments for patients through health promotion, best practice initiatives, and advanced technology equipment. Participation in education presentations, conferences and quality improvement projects is an expectation of this position. The Registered nurse is expected to provide safe and ethical nurse care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing care standards. A Family Centered approach to providing patient and family care is required.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) throughout the duration of employment. PEARS or PALS are required. Recent Pediatric Rheumatology and Clinical Research experience required and an additional 5 years of recent Pediatric experience in acute care & Ambulatory care programs required. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Must have 2 years’ experience in communication, education/teaching (individual and group sessions) with Pediatric patients and their families in a family centered care environment. Required to have 2 years’ experience in completing drug and financial application forms for funding. Proven ability to work positively, effectively, and cooperatively within a clinical environment. Excellent Critical thinking skills required. Telephone assessment and Triage experience in a pediatric clinical setting required. Experience with Connect Care, Net Care and Computer skills required. Must have a strong skill base with medication administration via all routes including ultrasound guided, conducting patient interviews, processing lab samples, and experience with quality improvement initiatives are required. Must be able to lift, pull, push up to 50 lbs. Must successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam with 90% or more, which is done at the time of the interview.
