Your Opportunity:

As a member of the Neurosciences ICU Casual Float Team, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, effective, and patient-centered nursing care in accordance with hospital policies and professional nursing standards. This position involves working across the High Intensity Unit, Stroke Observation Unit (5G3), and Neurosciences ICU (4A4). Working to full scope of practice, the RN is responsible for observing, monitoring, reporting, and documenting changes in patients’ physical, neurological, mental, and emotional status. The RN assists patients with activities of daily living and provides education, guidance, and support to patients and their families. The successful candidate will be cross-trained across both units to support operational needs and enhance team flexibility. A required critical care course will be provided once the candidate is deemed ready. The successful candidate collaborates within a multidisciplinary team to promote positive patient outcomes and deliver high-quality, compassionate care in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Applicants should have a minimum of one to two (1–2) years of adult acute care experience, along with experience in a Neurosciences unit setting. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent assessment, clinical, documentation, and organizational skills, along with a strong commitment to patient-centered care. Applicants must possess the ability to communicate findings clearly, concisely, and accurately, and demonstrate strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Proven mentorship abilities are also required. Candidates must demonstrate accountability for their own professional development by identifying learning needs and seeking guidance where knowledge gaps exist. The ability to demonstrate application of all 4A4/5G3 advanced competencies and certifications is required. A commitment to providing high-quality, patient- and family-centered care within a collaborative team environment is essential. The successful candidate must also meet the physical demands of the role, including the ability to lift to and include 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications, training, or experience in the following areas are preferred: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Critical Care Certification, cardiac rhythm analysis, emergency cardiac arrest management, External Ventricular Device (EVD) management, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
