Unit 43 is a busy Acute General Medical and Medical/Psychiatry Inpatient Unit at the Peter Lougheed Centre. We are a multidisciplinary team committed to maintaining a positive work culture, strong work ethic and continual learning. The medical/psychiatry service is a unique care model to the PLC and provides a multi-disciplinary integrated approach to the treatment of patients with concurrent medical and psychiatric illnesses to better address the needs of this population. As a RN on our unit, you will have an opportunity to strengthen knowledge and skills while practicing to full scope of practice. You will be able to effectively provide leadership to others, work well within a multidisciplinary team setting and have the ability to work independently. The RN on Unit 43 is expected to actively participate in quality improvement initiatives set out by the unit quality council. You will be required to care for patients who at times can become agitated, aggressive and unpredictable. You must be able to de-escalate patients and respond appropriately. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate decision making, critical thinking, organization and conflict resolution skills; interpersonal and communication skills; build and maintain relationships with patients, families and the interdisciplinary team; patient teaching, advocacy and patient and family centered care; show initiative and independence; be adaptable and flexible in a changing environment; and foster positive relationships in a team environment. Other unit specific duties include collaboration of care with the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and/or Health Care Aide (HCA) and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
