Your Opportunity:
Unit 64 is a 33-bed unit at Rockyview General Hospital with 28 Postpartum beds and 5 Surgical beds. The focus of care on the unit is Maternal-Child (Postpartum women and their newborns). Because of the fluctuations in our maternal-child patient population, Unit 64 also provides pre-operative and post-operative care for surgical patients from general surgery, urology, gynecology, and orthopedics. The nurse-to-patient ratio expectation is 1 nurse to 4 mother-baby dyads or 1 nurse to 5 surgical patients. As a Registered Nurse, you will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in accordance with all elements of the current Calgary Zone job description for Registered Nurses. You will be a member of the Maternal Child health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic and comprehensive care to meet the needs of postpartum women, including pre- and post-operative surgical care, and newborns within the context of their family. Nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation with the purpose of facilitating physical recovery and / or promotion of health within a fast paced and dynamic teaching environment. You will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making, as well as teach and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Recent RN experience in an acute care facility required. Recent RN maternal-child experience required. Demonstrated motivation and ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team. Demonstrated effective time management, communication, and critical-thinking skills. Demonstrated effective organizational skills. Demonstrated effective patient teaching skills. Demonstrated skill in the principles of patient and family centered care. Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time. Able to lift, push, pull equipment, including, but not limited to stretchers and hospital beds with patient. Able to participate in patient positioning and transfers. Preferred Qualifications:More than 2 years of experience working on a Postpartum unit preferred. Consideration will be given to new grads who have completed their senior practicum on a Postpartum Unit. Experience with Connect Care preferred. NRP certification preferred. Evidence of knowledge and skill related to infant nutrition preferred. Successful completion of recognized breastfeeding modules/course preferred. Experience as mentor/preceptor preferred. Charge nurse experience preferred.
