Your Opportunity:

The Public Health Nurse (PHN) Well Child Clinic is a key position working in partnership within a multidisciplinary team. The PHN partners with community stakeholders to provide integrated, strength based, family centered care in various settings. Nursing services include provision of universal Public Health services including antenatal/prenatal care; routine postnatal care, health assessment, counseling, screening, immunization; follow up; and referral, linkage, advocacy, consultation, and teaching as they relate to preschool and school aged children, families, adults, and seniors. The PHN is required to pack, lift, push, pull, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies weighing up to 25 lbs. to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking 3-4 blocks with awkward and/or heavy supplies weighing up to 25lbs and climbing 3-4 flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, reaching, and/or bending for 2-3 hours at a time. The PHN will be required to document in EMR continuously throughout the day. The PHN may be required to work with high-risk vulnerable populations. The PHN’s practice in this position will focus primarily as a PHN in the Influenza and Well Child Clinic Programs and other immunization duties as required. This position will be part of Primary Care Alberta effective November 18, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment. Strong interpersonal skills. Experience in interdisciplinary teamwork. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and organizational skills. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, and data entry required. Recent experience (within the past two years) working with Meditech or an electronic medical record is required. Recent experience (within the past two years) working in the Healthy Young Families program required. Must be able to perform within established program parameters. Must be able to work in a loud, chaotic, busy environment. Ability to walk 3-4 blocks at a time while carrying, pushing, pulling 25 lbs. of equipment, climb 4 flights of stairs while carrying 25 lbs. of equipment, carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 8-hour shift, sitting, standing, reaching and/or bending for long periods of time. The PHN will be required to document in EMR continuously throughout the day. Be able to comply with appropriate hand hygiene techniques, including regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing. Experience working with preschool aged children and their families, diverse cultures, & marginalized population. Knowledge, understanding & demonstrated use of the social determinants of health & health promotion factors.
