Under the supervision of the Eating Disorder Manager, and in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) - Calgary Eating Disorder Program will act as a primary care provider and utilize the Nursing process in delivering professional Nursing care to individuals who have an eating disorder and their families. This will include utilizing professional knowledge, technical skills, interpersonal skills, and clinical judgment. The RN/RPN will participate in the provision of education and treatment in both individual and group formats. Primary responsibilities include medical monitoring of patients, and assessment, as well as group therapy and meal support therapy. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Additionally, must have familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Mental health experience in acute care, inpatient psychiatry and/or eating disorder experience required. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position and provide hands on care to patients in unpredictable, urgent situations. Experience dealing with the medical complications that could arise with eating disorders and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Must have skills in psychiatric, and medical assessment and crisis intervention. Using Collaborative Problem Solving, Attachment needs, and Trauma Informed approach, the RN/RPN supports adults with eating disorders in understanding mental health, developing strategies to manage their mental illness, group therapy and meal support therapy. The RN/RPN works as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team and further engages in group facilitation and individual support.
Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families, and team members. Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team. NVCI training. Certification in the Core Brain Story (available through the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative) is preferred.
