Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:2 year’s recent (within the last 3 years) clinical experience working directly with patients preparing for or recovering from a bariatric surgical procedure, or 1 year recent (within the last 2 years) experience at an Adult Bariatric Specialty Clinic within Canada is required. Conflict management skills and the ability to support clients with complex mental health challenges are required. Must be able to deal effectively with conflict and sensitive issues. Must have the ability to perform movements, bending, stopping, and standing for long periods of time as required. Must be flexible, able to prioritize and organize workload and adjust to rapidly changing needs of the department. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. It is required that Applicants be able to push/pull/transfer and assist bariatric patients in W/C or over uneven surfaces with weights in excess of 350 pounds (150KG). Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, stressful environment. Must demonstrate excellent assessment, organization and patient care skills when interacting with patient/families and members of the health care team. Must maintain patient confidentiality. Must be able to demonstrate a professional attitude at all times. Must be self motivated; able to work independently as well as possess the ability to work well within a team.
Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor degree Nursing. Certified Bariatric Nursing certificate an aseducation materials for both patient and staff is preferred. Incorporate the RAH Way into everyday practice. Teaching experience. Experience in the following computer related programs is required: Connect Care- scheduling and EMR, Alberta Netcare, Outlook Express, Microsoft Office.
