Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must possess strong assessment, communication, organizational and problem solving. Must be able to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic, fast paced environment. Demonstrated advanced critical thinking and decision-making skills. PHN requires individuals to conduct work both in a clinic setting as well as community settings including in homes of clients. External environmental considerations would impact working conditions. PHNs are required to perform physical duties including gathering clinical supplies, accessing upper and lower cabinetry, moving clinical supplies to community clinics, home visits, bending, crouching to support feeding/immunization of young kids, can move up to 50 pounds at times, navigate awkward positions. The PHN is required to pack, lift, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. Comfortable to drive in all-weather conditions urban and rural.

Preferred Qualifications:

Min. 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years working in a PHN unit. Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred. Other experience related to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Desirable recent nursing experience includes CDC, maternal/postpartum and newborn assessment, working with young families or pediatric population is an asset. Other maternal/newborn certifications such as breastfeeding courses, lactation consultant, and childbirth education are an asset.
