Your Opportunity:

General clinical support for the dental teams, chairside assisting, intra-oral duties, follows stringent infection control standards, delivers patient education, clinical preventive therapies and radiographic procedures. Public Health Dental Clinic patients are disadvantaged, and many have English as a second language – so they may require more than the usual amount of explanation and assistance. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently by phone and in person with co-workers, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, other medical and administrative Staff, Patients.

Description:

As a Dental Assistant, you will receive and prepare patients for treatment. You will prepare instruments and materials required, perform intra-oral procedures and chair-side assistance during dental procedures. You will maintain cleanliness of the dental area and perform routine maintenance. You will also provide oral health treatment and education to patients. You may perform billing and pre-authorization of insurance claims and participate in the development of educational resource materials. You will maintain dental charts, records and databases.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a certificate from an accredited Dental Assisting Program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Dental Assistants (CADA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Outstanding teamwork skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written). Dental and medical knowledge and terminology. Ability to perform tasks with frequent interruptions. Effective organizational and prioritization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years’ experience in a dental clinic setting. Experience with “Power Practice” Dental management software preferred. Keyboarding / data entry skills. Customer relations and telephone skills essential.
