Your Opportunity:

The Foothills Medical Center (FMC) is looking for a motivated and skilled refrigeration mechanic who can display their skills in facility operations (FM&E), while offering team focused commitment and positive attitude. Under limited supervision, perform a full range of journeyman level refrigeration and A/C duties utilizing considerable initiative and judgement and in accordance with blueprints, diagrams; including refrigeration, A/C and building codes, regulations and department policy. Representative duties include: Maintaining, commissioning, monitoring, trouble shooting, analyzing performance and repairing of mechanical equipment and systems including: monitoring, testing, trouble shooting, documenting, installing, repairing, fridges, freezers, A/C units and ice machines. Recommends the design of the above systems on new projects and the replacement, modification and major repair of existing systems. Collaborates with other trades, contractors, consultants and engineers. Inspects new construction and renovation projects. Completes preventive maintenance including checking & recording new equipment as per standards, tests and services existing equipment: fridges, freezers, Ice/ water machines, A/C units etc. Other tasks include pricing/estimating of materials and repairs, ordering materials and supplies, review and upgrade of mechanical system drawings, completing work orders. The position will have the opportunity to work and provide coverage to all buildings within the campus. Performs other duties as required.

Description:

As a Refrigeration Mechanic, you will be responsible to assemble, install, repair, and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. You will also be required to perform continued preventative maintenance and operational performance checks on air or water cooled systems in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards and practices.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Refrigeration Mechanic Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Additional Required Qualifications:

5+ years specialized technical/professional experience. 5+ years of experience in repair, maintenance and operation of a wide range of hospital refrigeration equipment such as Ultra-low freezers, refrigerators, Follett & Scotsman Ice machines, computer room air conditioning and other refrigeration systems. Ability to work under emergency conditions and in difficult situations. Alert for occupational hazards of working with refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Must be familiar with all tools and equipment used in the trade and knowledgeable of the refrigeration / air conditioning code (CSA B52) and knowledge of all safety regulators (e.g., NBC, NFC, ABSA, CEPA).

Preferred Qualifications:

An Alberta Journeyperson Certificate in a related field is an asset. Very good verbal and written communication skills. Must be reliable, cooperative and capable of working independently as well in a team environment.
