Your Opportunity:

The Recreation Therapist II leads a team of Recreation Therapist I’s, Therapy Assistants, Students, and Volunteers, fostering cohesive team dynamics and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. In this role, you will collaborate closely with unit teams to develop and implement patient-centered care plans, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal outcomes. This position plays a key role in program development, ensuring the effective delivery of services and addressing therapy and risk factors, including patient and staff safety concerns. You will also liaise with external agencies and partners to coordinate and implement program-wide initiatives. As a Team Lead, you will provide both direct and indirect patient care, working within an interdisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive services for patients in your assigned program area. Your contributions will help patients, and their families actively engage in their wellness journey, creating meaningful connections between recreation, leisure, and overall well-being. Additionally, this role requires strong skills in conflict and change management, addressing challenges within the team and adapting to evolving service needs. The responsibilities also include assessing therapy and risk factors, maintaining safety standards, and driving innovation in recreation therapy services.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to perform a high level of physical effort (60-70%) as related to clinical caseload; the therapist may be required to maintain a standing position with lifting, bending and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic recreation interventions. Able to perform a high degree of concurrent mental effort (70-80%) is required for clinical decision making. Demonstrated knowledge & competency with therapeutic recreation professional standards of practice, best available evidence/research, assessments, client-centered treatment plans, identifying outcomes, individual and group treatment interventions, evaluation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and documentation. Excellent attendance record, reliability & personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a rehabilitation or clinical setting an asset. Experience with older adult population / programs is desired. Previous experience in a leadership role, providing direction to therapy assistants, students, and volunteers is an asset. Intermediate knowledge of computer and software applications (Microsoft Office, Teams, and Connect Care). Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation is an asset.
