Your Opportunity:

The Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) is a metropolitan hospital with over 650 inpatient beds. The RGH Recreational Therapist I (RecT) works primarily with Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients who reside mostly on our Transition units but may also be on other RGH teams/units. The caseload for all positions may be subject to change based on operational considerations and/or needs. The RecT I role involves assessing, treating & discharging patients from the RecT caseload based on their therapeutic needs. Your assessment & critical thinking skills will be necessary to guide your work, to prioritize your patient interventions and to assign tasks to Therapy Assistants. Your proven skills in time management, taking initiative & problem-solving will be an asset to this position as you will be working under minimal supervision. You will have a proven ability to work effectively within a continually changing, interdisciplinary, patient-centred environment. In addition to having strong clinical skills, we are looking for a clinician who can be an ideal team player. Description:

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience as a Recreation Therapist in an acute care setting within the last 2 years with a sub-acute medical patient population. Experience with geriatric and complex dementia care populations. Experience with cognitively impaired populations. Experience developing, facilitating and evaluating evidence-based group and individual programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

1+ years’ experience as a Recreation Therapist in an urban adult acute care setting. Experience on an ALC/Transition unit within the past 2 years.
