Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) is an Acute Care hospital with over 1,100 beds. It is the Trauma Centre for Southern Alberta, Eastern British Columbia and Western Saskatchewan. FMC has a Neuro Tertiary Unit as well as the majority of In-Patient Neurological services in Calgary. The present caseload for this position is in Tertiary Neurology, with the potential for coverage on the transition units as required. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Active membership with ATRA. Experience within the last year providing Recreation Therapy interventions to adult patients in an acute hospital setting. Minimum 2 years experience practicing as a registered Recreation Therapist. BLS for Health Care Providers Level C CPR certification issued within the last 12 months prior to commencement of employment. Ability to physically manage repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 6 months experience (1.0 FTE) within the last 2 years working in the area of adult neurology. Experience within the last year working in a tertiary or community setting. Continuing education in the area of neuro rec therapy.
