Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5years experience in a Recreation Therapist position in Long Term Care, Acute Care & Ambulatory community settings. 3-5 years demonstrated knowledge & competency with therapeutic recreation professional standards of practice, informed evidence and research, assessments, client-centered treatment plans, identifying outcomes, individual and group treatment interventions, evaluation, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association professional membership. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification through National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Fitness Alberta certification: Foundations in Physical Activity & Exercise and Fitness for the Older Adult specialty. Dementia Care certification (Dementia Practice Guidelines for Recreational Therapy). Aquatic Therapy experience. Expressive Arts experience. Music Care experience. Valid Heart and Stroke Foundation-Basic Life Support certification. Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to provide therapy to clients in their home.

Preferred Qualifications:

Health Change Methodology. Safe Client Handling Program-It’s Your Move. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Food Safety Alberta certification. Demonstration of continuing education. Physically capable of pushing a wheelchair for a long time and performing patient transfers. Punctual, meticulous, reliable & demonstrates regular attendance.
