The Recreation Therapist in this role ensures the level of recreation therapy practice is evidence based and meets recreation therapy standards of practice. This position is a community based position requiring the scheduling of clients and visiting the clients in their homes and will mainly involve service provision to Home Care clients, but could also be providing support in the acute care area. The Recreation Therapist is responsible for direct patient care, supervision of therapy assistants, and participation in program maintenance and evaluation. This program has a very strong focus on client centered care provided by a interdisciplinary team to achieve the client's goals. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Alberta Health Services currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) is required. Must be able to work independently and possess strong participative and collaborative skills, including excellent communication skills. Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and electronic charting, is required. Physical requirements include ability to push wheelchairs on uneven ground and ability to assist client with transfers.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in program development is preferred. Connect Care experience is preferred.
