Recreation Therapist I
Your Opportunity:
As a Recreation Therapist within Child Life Services programming, you will support best utilization of indoor and outdoor clinical play spaces throughout Stollery Children’s Hospital. With the use of recreation and other activity-based interventions, you will support children with abilities to improve and enhance their physical, cognitive, or emotional function, recover from illness or injury, and increase their overall physical and psychological health and well-being. You will improve care delivery for pediatric patients in a unique and fun way. The recreation therapist will: Implement recreational therapy programs or interventions using a variety of techniques or modalities, including accessing the elements of outdoor environment (snow, rain, sun, wind etc.), arts and crafts, sports, games, music, dance etc. Improve overall health and quality of life by developing healthy living strategies through recreation and leisure. Provide adaptive strategies and support patients to overcome barriers to participation in leisure activities. Work directly with patients and families individually or in a group setting. Collaborate with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, child life therapists, art therapists, music therapists, physicians, nursing, social worker, and other healthcare professionals. Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability/desire to work in a variety of weather conditions; all 4 seasons. This position will primarily be working with children and families in a clinical setting that includes an outdoor rooftop play space containing park equipment. Experience working with pediatric patients ages 0-17 years.
Preferred Qualifications:1 year experience as a recreation therapist. Experience with program development.
