Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5 years’ experience in a Recreation Therapist position in Long Term Care, Acute Care & community setting. 3-5 years' demonstrated knowledge and competency with therapeutic recreation professional standards of practice, best available evidence/research, assessments, client-centered treatment plans, identifying outcomes, individual and group treatment interventions, evaluation, interdisciplinary collaboration and documentation. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) with a specialty in Fitness for the Older Adult. Dementia Care training and/or certifications (Dementia Practice Guidelines for RT, Montessori Based Therapy). Expressive art and Music Care experience. Valid Heart and Stroke Foundation-Basic Life Support. Motivational Interviewing/Health Change Methodology. Food Safety Alberta Certification (1 day in person). Demonstration of continuing education. Physically capable of pushing a wheelchairs for an extended period of time and performing patient transfers. Punctual, meticulous and reliable. Demonstrates regular attendance. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold these qualifications.
