Your Opportunity:

The Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) has an opening for a clinical medical physicist to join our team. The CCI is a world-class freestanding cancer treatment centre with a long history of excellence in clinical care, treatment innovation, and fundamental research. The successful applicant will join a large and broadly skilled clinical and academic team that supports activities in external beam radiation therapy, brachytherapy, nuclear medicine, as well as diagnostic and MR imaging. The Institute has eight state-of-the art Varian linear accelerators, two Philips Big Bore CT-simulators, an Elekta ICON Gamma Knife, an orthovoltage superficial unit, HDR brachytherapy system, an active permanent seed implant brachytherapy program, and an ocular brachytherapy program. The CCI is also embarking on clinical trials and continued research with its in-house and first of its kind linac-MR. The CCI Medical Physics Department boasts involvement in numerous cooperative groups, pharma and investigator-initiated clinical trials, and has capabilities in SRS, brachytherapy, and motion management. It has three CAMPEP-accredited programs: University of Alberta Medical Physics Graduate Teaching Program offering an MSc in Medical Physics and a PhD degree in Medical Physics, Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program, and Imaging Physics Residency Program. The Medical Physics Department has a research 3T MRI, a 9.4T animal MRI, a 0.2T linac-MR prototype, and a full scale (human-sized) 0.5 linac-MR system. The fully equipped medical physics machine shop, coupled with ample computing resources and expertise, makes the department ideal for both leading-edge clinicians and theoretical researchers.

Description:

The successful candidate will carry out the usual duties of a clinical medical physicist, including activities such as oversight/design of quality assurance programs, implementation of new treatment or planning techniques, quality checks on the radiation treatment planning process, assisting in the drafting, implementation, and review of policy as needed, and assisting where required with the radiation safety program. The successful candidate will be invited to engage in research, didactic and non-didactic teaching activities, and have credentials to hold a clinical or academic appointment in the Division of Medical Physics, which is part of the Department of Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta.
