Your Opportunity:

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is a fast-paced inpatient and outpatient acute care facility treating patients from a variety of backgrounds and locations across the province. This position's primary responsibility is to provide mental health service to the Adult Bariatric Surgical Clinic in the Outpatient Department. The incumbent will perform individual assessments and consultations as well as lead and/or co-lead psychotherapy groups of bariatric clients preparing for bariatric surgery. Using predominantly cognitive behavioural therapy and an educational approach, the successful candidate will share strategies and challenges to develop individual treatment plans with a multidisciplinary team consisting of: Internists, Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Registered Dieticians, and Social Workers. Additionally, the incumbent will bring ingenuity and creativity into play in order to further develop the treatment program. The RAH Psychology team may also be involved in providing service to other clinical areas if required.

Description:

As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment. Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Clinical and/or Educational Psychology and CPR (BCLS) – Level C are required. Chartered Psychologist designation (or eligible for Chartering) in the province of Alberta with the College of Psychologists (CAP) is mandatory. Recent experience in an acute/chronic mental health care setting is required. Demonstration of excellent assessment, organization, patient care skills and an ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner is necessary. Ability to lead group therapy and work closely with a multidisciplinary team is essential. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are a must. Responsible to provide proof of active registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

A PhD is preferred. Specialized training in evaluation/counselling of obese clients or eating disorders is preferred.
