The Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre serves as a critical healthcare hub, offering a wide range of services, including acute care, continuing care, and mental health support, all with a focus on patient-centered care. As a member of the Protective Services team, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff, and the surrounding community. In this role, you will handle complex and sensitive situations, working proactively to resolve issues while collaborating closely with clinical teams and other stakeholders. As the first to respond, you will need exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage high-pressure situations. Description:

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Alberta class 5 operator’s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. Current Standard First Aid and Level C CPR.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with two years post-secondary education in a law enforcement or criminal justice discipline or Peace Officer experience. Two years post-secondary education in Security, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice preferred. Two years related security/law enforcement experience preferred. WHMIS training preferred. Certificate in CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Pressure Point Control Tactic an asset. Current First Aid and CPR Level C – AED certification.
