Your Opportunity:

Are you an experienced communications and public relations leader ready to shape how Emergency Health Services (EHS) connects with communities across Alberta? As the Manager, Public Education and Community Engagement, you will lead the strategy, structure, and execution of how EHS connects with the public, strengthens trust, and supports system understanding. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Operations, you will build and lead a province-wide team of Public Education Officers and establish a coordinated, high-impact EHS Ambassador Program. You will operate at the intersection of operations, community, and system leadership, translating real-world EHS realities into meaningful public engagement. This includes advising senior leaders, building relationships with municipal and community partners, and ensuring a consistent, credible presence across the province and beyond. In this role, you will serve as a trusted and credible leader, setting provincial and local direction, establishing standards, and ensuring alignment between community engagement efforts and system priorities, including demand management, workforce attraction, and public confidence. If you are motivated by system-level impact, thrive in complexity, and are driven to build something that meaningfully connects people to care, this is a rare opportunity to lead visible, province-wide work that matters.

Description:

The Manager, Public Education and Community Engagement provides strategic leadership and oversight for provincial public education and community engagement within Emergency Health Services (EHS). Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Operations, this role is accountable for developing and executing a comprehensive engagement strategy aligned with organizational priorities, system sustainability, and public trust. This position leads a provincial team of in-scope Public Education Officers and provides functional leadership to a broader network of EHS Career Ambassadors. The Manager is responsible for elevating the EHS profession by establishing consistent standards for public representation, messaging, and engagement across all programs and regions. A key component of the role is establishing and maintaining strong relationships with municipal leaders, healthcare partners, educational institutions, Indigenous communities, and other emergency service organizations. The position represents EHS in high-visibility settings, including community forums, government discussions, and media interactions. The Manager is responsible for designing and delivering public education initiatives that improve understanding of EHS, appropriate system use, and paramedic roles within a complex healthcare environment. This includes youth engagement and workforce awareness initiatives that support recruitment and retention. Through strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and performance oversight, this role ensures EHS maintains a visible, credible, and community-connected presence across Alberta.
