Your Opportunity:

The Department of Medical Physics is seeking Medical Physics Assistants (MPA) to support pre-installation work and commissioning at the new Calgary Cancer Centre, as well as ongoing clinical service at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Scheduled to open to the public in 2023, the 1.4billion dollar Calgary Cancer Centre will be a leading health care facility, academic, and research centre that will provide cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. For more information on the CCC planning, design and construction, please visit our website. The CCC will have 10 Linacs, 2 MR-Linacs at opening with a total of 15 vaults. There will be two MRIs dedicated for simulation and brachytherapy, as well as orthovoltage, a CT simulator, and a PET-CT simulator. Clinical radiotherapy programs at the current Tom Baker Cancer Centre in brachytherapy, SBRT, TBI, pediatric cancers and stereotactic radiosurgery will be transitioned to the CCC. The Medical Physics department includes medical physicists, medical physics assistants, clinical electronics, design lab and computer applications groups as well as medical physicist residents & fellows. Description:

Teams of physicists and physics assistants will receive and commission QA equipment, support the design-build process, and develop procedures and documentation for the CCC. Clinical workflows and techniques will be developed to enable all treatment techniques, such as total body irradiation, SRS, SBRT, CNS irradiation and pediatrics, to be transitioned to the new CCC. Physicist assistants will work with physics and electronics staff to support the radiation medicine software applications, the MR-Linac program and the MR-enhanced brachytherapy program. Working with the Physicists, the MPA team: perform a full range of quality control checks on the medical devices administered by the Medical Physicists at the TBCC and CCC as well as patient-specific quality assurance measurements; develops and maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation for QA program and clinical projects; provides rapid and concise communication of malfunctions or parameters found to be operating outside of tolerance to physicists and electronics; tracks and updates device calibration and medical device software as needed; assist in commissioning and development projects such as making measurements, designing, documenting and implementing tests and procedures, and training other team members on their use; assist with the automation in radiation therapy applications; review of daily, monthly and annual procedures relating to radiotherapy devices; prepare and maintain regular reports. Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or in a related discipline. Three months practical, hands-on experience or training in radiation oncology physics or imaging physics.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory. Familiarity with programming or scripting and general measurement and error analysis skills. Some duties are likely to be performed after clinical hours, flexibility for working hours is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Science in Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science or in a related discipline.
