Pharmacy Technician
Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services is seeking 3 dedicated professionals to join our pharmacy team at Central Production North. In this role, you will work to your full scope of practice, supporting safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care across all areas of drug distribution. You will participate in project activities to plan, launch operations, and be a resource supporting others involved in this initiative. You will coordinate and perform medication distribution activities, including sterile and nonsterile compounding, final checks, and inventory management. Responsibilities include checking and dispensing patient‑specific medication orders prepared by Pharmacy Assistants and other Pharmacy Technicians. You may also prepare, check, and dispense compounds and repackaged medications, support procurement and inventory control. Mentoring Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians, training new staff, and precepting students are also key aspects of the role, along with collaboration with pharmacists and interdisciplinary teams. You will uphold NAPRA and ACP standards, oversee delegated tasks, and contribute to operational activities and improvement initiatives. Strong verbal and written English communication skills are essential, along with professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate excels in a fast‑paced environment, demonstrates reliability, critical thinking, and adaptability, and is committed to confidentiality, accuracy, and effective teamwork. Candidates must be able to work independently and collaboratively, follow instructions, and adapt to changing workflows/technologies. Physical requirements include visual acuity, keyboarding, lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and extended standing and walking. This role also involves handling hazardous medications using appropriate PPE.
Description:
As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Current, provisional, or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 3 years of recent experience from an Institutional Pharmacy setting in a range of medication production and distribution functions, project work, pharmacy production technology and software Comprehensive knowledge and extensive experience with inpatient medication distribution and the legislation, regulations, procedures and technology. Experience with assessing complex problems and solutioning where there are no procedures, guidelines or systems in place and implementing them Prioritization and time management of tasks within a project involving many groups Engages key stakeholders in change process, understands both internal/external impacts and manages risks and benefits accordingly Experience participating in the piloting and evaluating of new ideas and explores creative solutions for using resources more efficiently and effectively Formal or informal leadership experience, including representing a group as a stakeholder, and/or facilitation of group meetings Involved in the gathering of data, analysis of information, and developing recommendations for improvement of medication production and distribution services Demonstrated proficiency with Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.). Preferred Qualifications:Leadership experience in a hospital pharmacy environment Project management and change management experience and/or certifications Process improvement experience or training 5 years of recent experience from an Institutional Pharmacy setting in a range of medication production and distribution functions including inventory management, as well as experience with project work, pharmacy production technology and software
