Pharmacist I - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, AB, as a Pharmacist I and play a meaningful role in caring for some of our smallest and most vulnerable patients. This is a great opportunity to collaborate closely with an expert interdisciplinary team, contribute to advanced neonatal pharmacotherapy, and make a real impact on families during critical moments. The Pharmacist I – NICU will provide direct patient care in accordance with the AHS Pharmacy Services clinical expectations standards at the Stollery. This includes managing medication therapy for patients collaboratively with other healthcare providers in a patient centered model to ensure that medications are used safely, effectively and appropriately. Some expectations of this role include: Assessing patients for potential or actual drug-related problems and resolving or preventing drug-related problems to optimize patient outcomes. Liaising with members of the health care team and developing professional relationships with patients and their family to formulate a medication treatment plan. Participating in drug stewardship and quality improvement initiatives. Obtaining and using Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) wherever practice allows. Participating in the collection of key performance indicator data and clinical workload measurements. Maintaining own professional development and participating in the precepting and mentoring of other staff and students. Other roles include: Medication order review and verification and checking prepared medications in our dispensary. Coordinating procurement of special access and study medication. Providing functional supervision for pharmacy operations and answering drug information questions.
Description:
As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to use computer medication order entry systems and able to access and proficiently use drug information resources and word processing. Fluency in written and verbal English language. Ability to incorporate AHS organizational values into daily work, actions and decisions. Ability to perform duties as outlined on the Physical Demand Statement (PDS) for the position. Ability to safeguard AHS information as private and confidential. Ability to follow and adhere to AHS policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Proven initiative and motivation is required. Ability to work with a wide variety of people in health care environment with professionalism and respect. Ability to effectively manage his or her time and set priorities when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to provide a positive and friendly approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity. Demonstrated problem solving skills. Must demonstrate personal and professional accountability.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of an accredited hospital residency program preferred. Clinical experience in NICU or pediatrics within the last 5 years preferred. Clinical experience in critical care within the last 10 years preferred. Additional Prescribing Authorization preferred. PRAC ID preferred.
