Completion of an orthoptic course from an accredited institution. Active membership with the Canadian Orthoptic Council (COC).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of three years’ experience as an Orthoptist in a healthcare setting, preferably in a hospital eye clinic or an Ophthalmologist’s office. Fluent in medical terminology and pharmacology (especially in ophthalmic diseases & conditions) Self-directed, relates well to health team professionals, patients and their families. Shows good judgement, excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills. Able to set priorities and make decisions that are appropriate to the position. Competent in use of equipment: orthoptic equipment. autorefractor, lensometer, retinoscope, phoroptor, visual field perimeters, trial frames & lenses, synoptophore, Hess screen, IOL Master.
