Your Opportunity:

Grande Prairie, found in northwest Alberta, is a growing city with over 60,000 residents and serving approximately 260,000 people in the trading area. Grande Prairie has something for everyone! Outdoor and indoor recreation opportunities are available at the numerous parks and golf courses, in addition to a state of the art recreation facility. There are also a multitude of dining and shopping opportunities along with a regional health facility. Your opportunity is to provide a wide range of assessment and therapeutic interventions to children and youth aged 0 – 18 years, with the primary population being under 5 years. On your team you will work closely and collaboratively with other Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants, as well as Physiotherapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Social Work, Early Childhood Intervention, and Dieticians. We often work closely with the home care nursing and social work teams. Strong community relationships with the local school teams, Pediatricians, FSCD, and other local programs allows us to provide a more coordinated service within our community. A strong link with the Tertiary Hospitals in Edmonton is also key in our success. In addition to excellent wages and benefits, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy required. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required. Must be able to use considerable independent judgment and initiative with a strong patient centered care approach. Computer skills including MS Office, and experience with electronic charting is essential. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. This position requires a vehicle for travel in between care sites in Grande Prairie as required by the program. AADL authorizer status required. Seating experience required Experience with pediatrics, early intervention, and multi-disciplinary treatment and assessment required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with pediatric clients with complex needs is beneficial. Experience with providing pediatric services to home clients is beneficial as this program collaborates closely with home care as required.
