Your Opportunity:

Responsible to the Manager of the Occupational Therapy Service, assumes the role of Team Leader for occupational therapists assigned to an adult stroke assessment rehabilitation unit. The primary duties of the Team Lead portion of the role include orientation, mentorship and coaching, staffing operations, program planning, monitoring of workload, professional practice, and liaison with interdisciplinary program teams. Holds a clinical caseload and is responsible for occupational therapy assessment, intervention, and consultation for adult clients in the inpatient Stroke Program. The Occupational Therapist II will work as part of the interdisciplinary teams. Will plan and participate in the education of clients, families, students, and other providers. Will participate in planning and operations within the Adult Stroke Program and the Occupational Therapy Service.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of five years clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist with some neurorehabilitation experience. Effective teaching skills, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills are required. An ability and interest to lead and mentor others, and an ability to adapt and adjust to changing work demands/priorities is essential. Must be physically capable of completing clinical tasks such as assisting with patient transfers, limb mobilizations, lower extremity assessment and compression wrapping etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in a leadership role is considered an asset. Experience with change management and quality improvement an asset.
