Your opportunity is in a smaller fast paced, dynamic, multi-disciplinary acute care and out patient setting. This position supports Grande Prairie, as well as the idyllic town of Beaverlodge. You will also support the Hythe Continuing Care site and home care clients. This position allows you develop your practice area to provide the services required by the community. It is very rewarding placement and allows for your individual focus in areas you see requiring development. As the only occupational therapist, you will work closely with the nursing teams, physicians, therapy assistant and physiotherapist. This position provides a high level of independence and case management. Support as needed will be available from Grande Prairie. Student supervision independent case load management and good communication is required. The successful candidate needs to have a record of proven leadership, assess quality of services provided and identify areas for quality improvement. Along with a variety of career development opportunities, we offer a competitive rate of pay, a Remote Retention Allowance to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.


As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active BLS-HCP certification

Preferred Qualifications:

Membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists preferred. AADL authorization in an asset. Clinical experience in an Acute care setting preferred. Proven record of mentoring and supporting team members to ensure optimal services are provided to our clients is essential. The successful candidate should have at least 5 years clinical experience.
