Occupational Therapist I
Your Opportunity:
Come join the dynamic Calgary Rural Rehabilitation team! This casual opportunity will support Occupational Therapy services in the Calgary Rural Communities of Vulcan, High River, and/or Strathmore. The Occupational Therapist will work as part of an interdisciplinary team and will primarily support (sub)acute care patients. There will be opportunities to work with Long Term Care residents (Vulcan) as well as Home Care services (Strathmore/Vulcan). Your Home site can be negotiated within the Calgary Rural area and there is support for mileage when travelling to other sites. Vulcan Community Health Centre supports 8 Acute Care beds and 15 Long Term Care residents, High River General Hospital supports 27 Acute Care beds and 50 Long Term Care residents, and Strathmore District Health Services supports 26 Acute Care beds. Reporting to the Rural Allied Health Manager (Adults), the Occupational Therapist will work with our existing rehabilitation team to provide integrated rehabilitation services across the continuum of health services. In addition to performing your clinical roles, you will be expected to foster effective relationships within the site and across our rehabilitation teams and at times, participate in quality improvement and program development initiatives within the Rural Calgary zone.

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required (or to be obtained within 2 months from start date). Excellent computer, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. Strong assessment, conflict resolution and time management skills are required. Proven ability to provide exceptional clinical care within a continually changing healthcare environment. Physically able to perform all assigned tasks. You will be responsible to transfer/handling patients, carry and move equipment (lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing and pulling upwards to 50 Ibs) as a regular part of the job.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience working in a rural area is strongly preferred. Previous experience working with an Acute Care population is an asset. AADL authorizer for small equipment and level A wheelchair and seating benefits.
