Occupational Therapist I
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Care Manager of the Palliative Home Care program, the Occupational Therapist I (OT) works as a member of an inter-professional care team. Working within the full scope of professional practice, the OT is responsible for providing comprehensive assessment, consultation and treatment programs for patients within palliative home care. The OT, in collaboration with the client and/or family, determines the assessed care needs, plans, coordinates and evaluates interventions aimed to address the palliative client and family’s care needs. The OT fosters and promotes continuity of care through collaborative relationships with the inter-professional care team, the primary care physician and other programs or services involved in the provision of client care. PLEASE NOTE: This is an ON-SITE position that requires reporting to an office site daily. There is no opportunity for remote work.

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. A minimum of 2 years of current, relevant OT experience is required. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize and organize many details in a timely and flexible manner is required. Demonstrated ability to work in an inter-professional team is required. Demonstrated effective decision making and critical thinking skills are required. A demonstrated ability to work in a self–directed environment, independently, using sound professional judgment. Computer skills are required. Must be physically capable to perform all aspects of the position in accordance with Hazard Identification Assessment and Control Worksheet (HIAC). Ability to perform all duties in accordance with related legislation. Orientation to this role is full-time for 6 consecutive weeks for applicants external to Home Care. Applicants must be able to commit to this 6 week requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates who have relevant OT experience in a community setting. Current knowledge and skill related to palliative care OT is preferred.
